The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner provides and administers addiction and mental health services to a select patient population emphasizing a best practices approach with emphasis on preventative health measures and patient education. Maintains and exhibits positive and multi-disciplinary team oriented approach to facilitate the treatment and recovery mission of the BHS Department.
Works in clinical collaboration with a psychiatrist to provide comprehensive addiction and mental health care following appropriate clinical guidelines. Obtains subjective information/history, performs physical/psychological assessments, and evaluates findings. Requests and interprets diagnostic studies and lab tests as indicated by the patient’s physical/mental status. Identifies plan of care, incorporating the physical, psychological, emotional, societal and environmental needs of the patient. Implements appropriate treatment including prescriptions for drugs, devices, and immunizing agents in accordance with established practice protocols. Provides individualized patient education regarding the diagnosis and treatment of his/her medical conditions, as well as appropriate preventative measures. Provides ongoing medication management for addiction and mental illness. Collaborates with other health care providers and identifies resources and initiates appropriate referrals. Provides consultative and instructional guidance to nursing and other health care professionals in the area of expertise. Maintains documentation compliance with all hospital, regulatory and payer guidelines and regulations. Maximizes all professional billing opportunities for hospital, consistent with defined policies.
License and Certification as a Nurse Practitioner in New York State with Psychiatry specialty practice. Must possess at least one year of experience as a Nurse Practitioner in Behavioral Health Services. Must have excellent communication skills. Must possess active DEA number.
