    Under the general supervision of the Clinical Nurse Manager, the Scheduling Coordinator will perform a variety of duties related to scheduling patients for wound care, vascular and hyperbaric visits on the main hospital campus and off sites.  This includes customer service to physician offices, patients, and hospital departments.  Schedulers pre-register all accounts and produce patient scheduled services sheets. The schedulers usually coordinate with doctors, staff, nurses, patients and other medical departments while setting up appointments over the phone or in person. The Scheduler performs all duties and function in relation to the scheduling and pre-registration for wound care, vascular, and hyperbaric patients. Practices proper phone etiquette and are always courteous and respectful towards patients, referring physician offices and co-workers. Schedules patient appointments called in by patients, physicians, and physicians offices.  Ensures required laboratory testing is obtained prior to the scheduled appointment. Obtains patient demographic and insurance information, enters into computer system. Obtain insurance authorization, if needed. Updates information in the computer system for return patients. Provides patient with any pre-appointment special instructions. Prepares daily patient schedules and charts for patients. Greets patients.  Schedules appointments for follow up tests. Arrange transportation for patients, if needed. Daily and monthly tally of patients seen. Order forms and supplies for department. Manages facility and physician encounter forms. Interacts professionally with physicians, patients/families and healthcare staff. Communicates with staff clearly and appropriately.


    High school graduate or equivalent required. Minimum of one year experience as a scheduler and previous professional experience within a medical setting. Strong communications skills (verbal/written) and fluent bilingual competencies (English/Spanish) required. Computer experience and knowledge of medical terminology required. Must possess knowledge of radiology exams and procedures as well as working knowledge of health insurance required. Demonstrated proficiency in MS office suite of products.
