Responsibilities

 

St. John's is pleased to announce an exciting new training program for licensed Registered Nurses to be trained to work in our Operating Rooms!

RN's must possess a NYS license and willing to make a commitment to our training program

Operating Room Registered Nurses are responsible  and  accountable  for  the  delivery  of patient  care utilizing the Nursing Process.  She/he implements the Nursing Service standards of care and practice, as appropriate to the ages of the patients served and the areas of clinical practice. Exhibits critical thinking in the assessment, planning, prioritizing, delivery and evaluation of patient care. Documents data collection  and identifies individualized   patient/significant   other learning needs and implements appropriate measures to meet needs. Demonstrates knowledge, respect and sensitivity of patient's rights.  Serves as a patient advocate.  Assures confidentiality of patient information.  Maintains effective communication with staff, physicians, patients and families, also within the unit and with other departments.  Utilizes opportunities for clinical learning and participates in continuing education activities to meet established requirements and for own professional development.  Inspect room to ensure room is ready for appropriate surgical procedure. Check patients chart prior to surgery to ensure proper consent, identification, and medical chart is present. Mark correct surgery site. Available to anesthesia during intubation. Ensure correct surgical instrument or any other foreign matter.  Responsible for calling time out before surgery.  Anticipates the needs of surgeon, anesthesiologist and scrub nurse.  Performs scrub nurse duties as assigned. Positions will work at both our Dobbs Ferry and Andrus Pavilion Operating Rooms.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred. Currently licensed and registered to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York. Willing to commit to our Operating Room training program.
