Currently licensed and registered to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State. Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred. Behavioral Health Nursing experience desired. The Staff Nurse is responsible for providing health assessments, working with the treatment team to define a treatment plan, providing health education and counseling and administering Methadone.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Administers medication to patients; prepares in-house and take-home doses.
2. Assists the MD/PA in conducting the required initial and annual physical examinations on patients.
3. Consistently documents the narcotic count daily.
4. Performs a daily check of the Emergency Medication Cabinet and records any expired medications.
5. Prepares and records urine samples for laboratory testing.
6. Interviews patients at the time of intake and annual review in order to complete a health history, provide health education, and make appropriate referrals.
7. Responsible for following up with all patient referrals and recommendations.
8. Set up courtesy dosing with our patients and/or visiting patients.
9. Evaluate and assess patients for alertness, gait, signs, and symptoms of drug or alcohol intoxication prior to medicating him/her.
10. Utilizes the group process in working with clients and co-lead groups.
11. Updates and maintains clinic records and/or patient charts with requested initial and annual physical examinations.
12. Participates in Quality Assurance/Improvement.
13. Maintains proper documentation in patient records including computer and hard copy format.
14. Consistently demonstrates knowledge of Federal and NYS regulations pertaining to Methadone treatment.
15. Provides medical counseling and medical intervention concerning, chemical dependency and how it relates to health problems (emphasizing HIV and Hep C related issues).
16. Effectively manages and responds to patients who exhibit behavior problems or are manipulative on the unit in a professional and therapeutic manner.
17. Assumes responsibility for all treatments being carried out as ordered.
18. Responsible for duties of nursing supervisor in his/her absence.
19. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control.
20. Performs EKG testing on patients when requested by medical staff.
