Responsibilities

Perform expected responsibilities of position with knowledge, competency, and appropriateness to ages of patients/customers served within the histology section of the laboratory.Demonstrates excellent microtomy skills both on paraffin and frozen sections. Communicates any technical problems to the Department Supervisor. Demonstrates competency in accessioning, tissue processing, embedding, routine and automated (to include H&E, frozen sections, special staining, IHC) staining and coverslipping. Demonstrates independent technical judgement. Effectively resolves technical issues related to the histology laboratory. Performs and records all Quality Control results. Performs and records all required maintenance on laboratory instruments. Performs all procedures within all areas of documented competency. Sends out specimens to reference laboratory. Periodic review of work for compliance with SOP.

Qualifications

AAS in Medical Technology or related Science. NYSED license as a Clinical Laboratory Technician or Certified Histology Technician. Demonstrated proficiency in MS office suite of products. Demonstrated ability to communicate in writing, using advanced writing skills.
