Responsibilities

The Clinical Coding Specialist assigns the appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes to all inpatient and ambulatory surgery and observation discharges as required and according to hospital coding and billing rules for data retrieval, analysis and claims processing, adhering to established coding conventions and guidelines and UHDDS reporting guidelines.

Qualifications

HS Diploma/GED; Bachelor's degree preferred. HIAMA Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)/Certified Coding Associate (CCA)as well as AAPC CPC preferred. RHIT and RHIA preferred. A minimum of 3-5 years of outpatient coding experience and strong knowledge of pc's and business and medical software. Stong communicational and organizational skills required. Must present a team approach with Clinical Documentation and Medical Staff. Proficiency in medical record analysis as well as ICD 10 CM/PCS, CPT coding methodology and coding guidelines.
