Responsibilities

The Endocrinology Nurse Practitioner (NP) under the supervisor of the Endocrinologist, provides advanced nursing care to patients with endocrine disorders, including diabetes, thyroid disease, adrenal disorders, osteoporosis, and hormonal imbalances. Working in collaboration with Endocrinologist  and other healthcare professionals, the NP conducts comprehensive assessments, manages chronic conditions, orders, and interprets diagnostic tests, and develops individualized treatment plans to improve patient outcomes.

Perform physical exams and obtain patient health histories with a focus on endocrine-related conditions.

Diagnose and manage acute and chronic endocrine disorders, including but not limited to diabetes, thyroid dysfunction, pituitary and adrenal abnormalities, and osteoporosis.

Order, interpret, and follow up on laboratory tests and imaging studies.

Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans.

Prescribe medications and insulin regimens; adjust dosages based on patient response.

Provide patient education and counseling on disease management, medication use, lifestyle changes, and self-monitoring techniques.

Collaborate with endocrinologists, primary care providers, dietitians, and other specialists to coordinate patient care.

Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of clinical protocols.

Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR).

Stay current with the latest research and guidelines in endocrinology.

 

Sits, stands, bends, lifts, and moves intermittently during working hours.

Possession of a current valid license to practice nursing in New York State.

 

Possible exposure to patient body substances, with potential/actual infectious diseases.

Possible exposure to potentially hazardous materials/conditions, (i.e. noise, chemicals, CRT, electrical equipment, etc.).

Exposure to equipment with moving parts and sharp objects.

 

Qualifications

Masters of Science Nursing

Valid NYS Nurse Practitioner License

Possession of a current valid license to practice nursing in New York State.

License as a Nurse Practitioner in New York State with at least one (1) year experience.

At least 2 years of endocrinology experience required.
