The cable technician installs, troubleshoots, repairs and maintains the computer, telephone and television cabling. Terminates, defines and verifies operation of cabling and equipment. Assists PC and communications staff. Supports St. John’s Riverside Hospital and all other affiliates. Installs wall plates and jacks in a clean and efficient manner. Tones and tags telephone and television cabling. Performs setup procedures to define equipment for which cabling is intended for. Maintains departmental log of cabling runs. Assists with configuration and roll out of phone systems. Must attend all required hospital in-service programs. Responsible for reviewing and incorporating the Hospital and Department Mission Statements in daily work activities. Responsible for reviewing Hospital and Departmental Continuous Quality Improvement goals, procedures and models.
HS diploma or equivalent with additional technical school training in computer technology required; Associates degree in Computer Science, IT or Business preferred. Cabling certification, advanced computer/telecommunications/electrical knowledge and skills with equipment are required that include good diagnostic evaluation skills. Valid driver’s license required. The ability to prioritize and knowledge of healthcare building codes and Cat 5 and Cat 6 cabling rules required. Knowledge of N+ preferred. Good communications and customer service skills needed. Familiarity with a variety of the field’s concepts, practices and procedures preferred.
