Under the direction of the Director of Patient Access, is responsible to provide assistance and support in the operation of the Patient Access functions of the hospital. Provide leadership and supervision to all assigned areas; oversees and evaluate the effectiveness of the services. Works in an integrated, harmonious manner with other team leaders and is flexible in leading other specialty teams within Patient Access. Managing and leading all aspects of registration to enable complete, accurate, and timely hospital billing—maximizing collectable and minimizing uncollectable accounts. Overseeing collection and auditing of registration information to ensure clean claims. Ensuring the quality and reliability of registration data system-wide. Developing, monitoring, and responding to a full range of financial, service, and quality indicators in all areas. Maintaining a system of management reporting that provides timely and relevant information to all employees with respect to registration and patient access responsibilities. Developing plans, goals, and implementation strategies in support of the organizational mission, vision, and business objectives. Assuring appropriate levels of understanding, awareness, and compliance with all applicable JCAHO, federal, state, and agency laws, regulations, guidelines, and professional standards. Reviews registration department operations to ensure compliance with JCAHO standards. Ensures the department complies with Hospital established policies, quality assurance, compliance programs, safety, environmental and infection control policies and procedures. Reviews Medicare Secondary Payer Questionnaire and Important Message from Medicare for compliance with CMS Regulations. Audits registration records for appropriate diagnosis codes and procedures, ensuring that written documentation supports the test ordered, diagnosis, and physician’s order. Works as a team member, including coverage of services and helping others as needed to contribute to the overall success of the department. Ability to adjust personal work schedule to meet the needs of the department. Maintaining appropriate staffing levels and administering the following: competency assessments, staff orientations, ongoing education programs, training of new employees, and development courses in all areas of responsibility. Prepares and completes monthly staff work schedules to ensure adequate staffing levels within the department’s operational budget. Responsible for handling requests for vacation, personal time, and/or unscheduled absences. Prepares payroll and assists in maintaining department attendance records. Completes all special assignments as requested. Participates in Hospital staff committee meetings as required.
This is a Monday to Friday position 9am - 5pm with on call weekedays 5:30am - 10pm, weekends 8am - 1pm and overnights.
Bachelor’s degree in healthcare or related field preferred. A minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience within the hospital/healthcare business operations with at least three (3) years in significant healthcare management/leadership position. Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to maintain the strictest levels of confidentiality.Team oriented. Excellent Customer Service Skills. Thorough awareness of applicable laws, guidelines, and professional standards such as CMS, EMTALA, and HIPAA. Comprehension of medical terminology and strong computer skills. Knowledge of coding and billing practices. Knowledge of insurance and pre certification requirements.
