Responsibilities

Acting under the direction of a Registered Nurse/LPN, the Patient Care Technician assists the nurse in providing patient care in accordance with Hospital policies and procedures.

 

Responsibilities

• Assist with the transport of patients including but not limited to admission, transfer, and discharge
• Demonstrate personal commitment to the organization’s core values through active involvement in the quality improvement process and embodies “AIDET” by providing patients and coworkers with respect and kindness
• Creates a positive experience for all patients, engages patients in their treatment, provides patient support, utilizes de-escalation techniques, escalates to a nurse when additional interventions are needed such as an agitated patient, patient in acute withdrawal or overdose.
• Attends communication huddles daily
• Performs venous blood draws, POC testing as ordered, BGM, EKG, collect and process specimens including covid swabbing, among other duties on the unit
• Greets and orients patients to the patient care area
• Provides hourly purposeful rounding to assigned patients
• Reports off to oncoming CNA/PCT/LPN/RN prior to leaving hospital
• Vital signs (Temperature, BP, Pulse, Respiration, PO2) and adheres to Hospital policy regarding policy
• Weight/I&O
• Oxygen Therapy/O2 Tank Change
• Maintains order and appearance of patient rooms and work area and restocks supplies at the end of shift
• Orient of personnel to the unit
• Promotes professional growth and meets ever changing organizational needs
• Follows St. John’s Riverside Hospital attendance policy
• Responsibilities’ and/or job duties compliant with Hospital policies and procedures may be included, excluded, or modified as appropriate for individual sites

 

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Patient Care Technician national certification required.

• Must complete competencies
• Hospital experience preferred
