Responsibilities

The Physical Therapist is responsible for assesses plans, organizes, and practices in rehabilitative programs that improve mobility, relieve pain, increase strength, and decrease or prevent deformity of patients suffering from disease or injury. 

Works in conjunction with the physician's referral and patient's medical records to help secure the appropriate treatment for each individual condition. Plans, prepares, and carries out individually designed programs of physical treatment to maintain, improve, or restore physical function, alleviate pain, and prevent physical disability. Performs and documents an initial exam, evaluates the data to identify problems and determines a detailed plan of care to address individual disability or deficit.Identifies appropriate interventions for the accomplishment of established treatment plans and goals. Maintains accurate and appropriate documentation of such plans, goals and progress in the medical record. Administers therapeutic interventions such as exercise, manual therapy, assistive devices and other modalities to improve patients’ mobility, strength, balance, coordination and functional outcome. Evaluates effects of treatment at various stages and adjusts interventions accordingly to achieve maximum benefit. Participates in patient and family education for follow up between and post PT sessions.Participates with multidisciplinary team to plan, implement and assess the intervention program and plan for post treatment needs.Provides educational information about physical therapy and physical therapists, injury prevention, ergonomics, and ways to promote health. Directs and supervises supportive personnel.

Qualifications

Must possess a current NYS Physical Therapist.  Bachelor or Master of Science in Physical Therapy or Doctorate of Physical Therapy.  Two years experience preferred.  Basic computer knowledge required.  Demonstrated ability to communicate in writing, using advanced writing skills.
